Top 10 moments of 2019
It’s been a few weeks since my first blog post so thought I would get back to the laptop and take a look back at 2019 and share my top 10 moments of the year.
Celebrated my one-year anniversary
It has been a huge learning curve moving from my old job role and I could not believe I had been with the hotel for a whole year in August! How do they put up with me?!
We had an amazing Christmas at the hotel and helped many local companies and people celebrate the festive season. We are already thinking of ideas to better this for 2020 so keep an eye out for our Christmas brochure which is coming soon!
When booking a meeting at the hotel, we ask our guests to leave an email address so they can give us some feedback about their time at the hotel.
Within the Interstate portfolio, we achieved the best score of the 3rd quarter running! An amazing achievement for the whole team that simply would not be possible without our guests.
Guest love Holiday Inn London-Bexley
Just as with meetings, we ask our guests who stay with us to complete a survey to tell us what they liked, didn’t like, and what they think we can improve.
What have they told us? They love us! We have managed to grow this score by 2% year on year which is no small feat.
We have sadly seen some staff members leave for new adventures, but this has meant we have found some amazing people to join our Bexley family.
People like Emma, who works in our events team and Becky who is our Food & Beverage manager. Imagine what we can do with these new additions to the family.
Moving on up
Not only have we had new members join the family but we have also promoted internally as well. Chris was an event co-ordinator for the hotel but since October has been our Reservations, Conference & Events manager.
We also have Rob who has been promoted to Food & Beverage supervisor and Connor who has been promoted to team leader, and this is just to name a few.
It will be great to see everyone grow into their roles and I for one look forward to going on this journey with them.
In June 2019, we had General Managers from all over the country descend to the hotel for their annual GM meeting and the feedback we had from them was incredible.
One General Manager even said we served some of the best food they had ever had at this meeting. This made our Chef happy.
To prepare for the Open Lobby, we got a new menu from Head Office. Our staff got to try the menu (which they really enjoyed) and we have received some really positive feedback.
We do have a few ideas for a smaller menu at the hotel so keep an eye out in the hotel for this.
Just keep giving
We were recognised by Marie Curie for raising an incredible £1154.60! We could not do this without your help so thank you for helping us with this amazing achievement. We will continue our efforts this year with our non-uniform days for staff, cake sales and quiz nights.
We have also begun working with North Kent College speaking to students about their careers in the hospitality industry and offering any advice we can give.
Our General Manager, Daniel Sharpe, also offers his quizmaster skills for charity quizzes arranged by local companies and organisations so if anyone is thinking about hosting their own quiz you know who to contact.
In 2019, we were told that our hotel would be getting the Open Lobby which is now throughout many Holiday Inns around the country.
This work has now begun and I for one cannot wait to see the finished product. Look out for my next blog post where I will (hopefully) be able to show you a sneak peek into our finished restaurant.
So that was 2019 in a nutshell, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of 2020 brings!
